Check the sensor before comparing features

Bodymapp’s FAQ says its scanning workflow uses the depth sensor associated with Face ID on compatible Apple devices. Its marketing references an iPhone X or newer, but buyers should check the exact supported model rather than assuming every newer iPhone has the required hardware.

Bodymapp advertises an avatar and up to twenty measurements. LeanLens’s photo workflow addresses estimated body fat, muscle and visual proportions. A photograph is not a depth map, and a physique interpretation is not a tailoring measurement.

What does “no photographs” mean?

Bodymapp’s FAQ describes processing monochrome depth imagery without capturing conventional photographic imagery. That is a specific input distinction, not proof that no personal data is processed or stored. Read the privacy policy for the wider data lifecycle.

For either app, separate four questions: what is captured, what leaves the device, what remains in an account, and how deletion works. A blank or stylized avatar may feel less sensitive than a photograph while still representing personal body information. Choose the handling you understand and accept.

A buyer’s check before committing

Start by testing compatibility using the official app requirements. Then decide whether circumference history or photo interpretation is more important. If fitting clothes or following a measurement map is the goal, investigate Bodymapp’s output definitions; if understanding a gym photo is the goal, evaluate LeanLens’s result and limitations.

We have not performed a same-person depth-sensor versus photograph study, verified an export round trip, or checked every regional subscription offer. Keep a local copy of your previous records while evaluating either workflow. Do not treat a missing exact price in this comparison as evidence that an app is free.

FAQ

Is this a hands-on review?

No. This is a dated comparison of official product information, with editorial selection guidance. It does not report a device test or rank accuracy.

Which app is more accurate?

This comparison cannot establish that. A fair accuracy claim needs a defined outcome, reference method, representative participants and a reproducible test.

Is LeanLens a replacement for every feature?

No. Check input method, platform, history, measurements and paid access against your own requirements before switching.
