Check whether the tape is at the same landmark and angle, and whether posture and tension match. Record duplicate readings to see whether the method is repeatable.
A repeatable tape check
Make tape measurements comparable
When two readings disagree, check the landmark, tape angle, tension and posture before interpreting the difference as body change.

The repeatability checklist
Keep one definition per series. A reading at the navel should not be silently compared with a reading at the narrowest waist.
- Mark or describe the exact landmark. Do not switch between clothing size, bone width and circumference.
- Stand the same way for each reading and keep the tape level without compressing the skin.
- Use the same unit and tape, and note unusual conditions.
- Take two readings after fully repositioning the tape. If they differ, take a third and record all readings instead of selecting your preferred one.
Decide what to keep
The worksheet below keeps the raw readings visible. A large spread suggests checking the setup again. There is no universal correction that can recover a mismatched landmark or unit.
Common questions
Keep the original and note why it may not be comparable. A later repeat under the written protocol is more useful than silently changing the record.
