Navy Body Fat Calculator

Estimate body fat from tape measurements using the selected equation. Read the measurement protocol before entering your numbers.

NeckWaist / abdomen

Historical circumference equation, not the current military assessment. For the male equation measure abdomen at the navel. For the female equation measure the natural waist and widest hips. Measure neck below the larynx, tape level and relaxed. Height: 120–230 cm; weight: 35–300 kg; waist: 40–200 cm; neck: 20–70 cm; hips: 50–220 cm. Estimates outside 2–65% are not displayed. Tape estimates can differ substantially from individual body composition.

Method and source

For adults. These educational estimates are not a prescription, diagnosis or a plan for pregnancy, breastfeeding or a medical condition.

How to interpret the result

This is an equation-based estimate. Different tape landmarks and equation choices produce different results. It does not measure body fat directly.

Common questions

Can this replace a body-fat scan?

No. The tape equation estimates body fat from circumferences. Its assumptions and measurement error differ from laboratory or photo methods.
